Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) participated in the validation programme of the Model Labour Law Curriculum for Bangladesh, organised in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), marking a significant contribution to the advancement of labour law education in the country.
Representing Green University of Bangladesh, Dr Md Arifuzzaman, Chairman, Department of Law, and Ms Mehenaj Binte Amin, Lecturer, Department of Law, attended the programme alongside representatives from 25 universities across Bangladesh.
The initiative began in May 2026, when Mr Shariful Islam and Ms Mehenaj Binte Amin participated in a specialised boot camp dedicated to developing a model labour law curriculum for Bangladesh. As part of this collaborative initiative, Ms Mehenaj Binte Amin contributed to the development of two of the proposed curriculum's 14 topics: "Discrimination" and "Working Hours and Rest." Her contributions were coordinated and supervised by Prof. Nikita Lyutov, Dr. Jur., of Maqsut Narikbayev University, Kazakhstan, who served as an International Consultant to the ILO.
The validation programme brought together academic representatives from 25 universities to review, discuss and validate the proposed 14-topic Model Labour Law Curriculum, with the aim of strengthening the quality and relevance of labour law education in Bangladesh.
The programme featured valuable insights and remarks from Prof. Dr Masuma Habib, Member of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, and Ms Elena Gerasimova, Labour Law and Labour Standards Specialist, ILO Decent Work Team for South Asia. Renowned labour law practitioner Mr A.K.M. Nasim also attended and shared his professional perspectives on contemporary labour law issues.
Discussions during the programme focused on several important priorities, including updating university curricula in line with amendments to the Bangladesh Labour Act and evolving ILO standards, expanding professional development and training opportunities for university faculty members, particularly those from public universities, and extending the application of the model curriculum to the professional training of labour inspectors, judges and lawyers.
For Green University of Bangladesh, participation in this initiative represents an important step towards contributing to the development of contemporary labour law education, strengthening academic collaboration, and bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and professional practice.
The Department of Law, Green University of Bangladesh, expresses its sincere appreciation to the International Labour Organization for facilitating this significant initiative and remains committed to contributing to the advancement of labour law education and the promotion of decent work in Bangladesh.
