Celebration of 75 years of UDHR

Department of Law, Green University of Bangladesh has successfully organized a 2-days long program titled ‘Celebration of 75 Years of Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ on 22-23 December, 2023.
Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Former Professor at Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka and Former Chairman of Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh graced the program as ‘Chief Guest’ and shared his valuable thought-provoking critical insight on the development of human rights in the three phases-past, present and future mentioning that the eastern region has been carrying the notion of human rights for ages, long before the birth of UDHR as the western product. Prof Dr. Khawza Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed, Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor, Green University of Bangladesh attended the program as ‘Guest of Honor’. He expressed that without ensuring human rights to all, our very existence on this earth would be futile. Prof. K.M. Wazed Kabir, honorable Treasurer, Green University of Bangladesh attended the program as ‘Special Guest’. He congratulated the department for arranging such a contemporary program on human rights and hoped that students would be highly motivated to be human rights lawyers. Iftekhairul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Welfare and Force Division DMP, Dhaka attended the program as ‘Resource Person’ who vividly upheld the demarcation between the theoretical aspect of human rights and the practical application of those aspects by law enforcement authority.
This program was graciously chaired by Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Former Vice Chancellor, GUB & honorable distinguished Professor, Green Business School. Sir shared his valuable insight regarding how the eastern region viewed the stages of wisdom earlier and despite that, how we are influenced to follow western preaching in today’s world.

The formal program ended with ‘Crest Distribution’ to the honorable guests and ‘Prize-Distribution’ to the winners and participants of two segments, ‘Poster Competition’ and ‘Photo Competition’ which were judged by Professor Dr. Abul Hossain, Honourable Chairperson of Department of Sociology, Dr. Aliur Rahman, Chairperson, Journalism & Media Communication, and Mr. Mahmud Wahid Zoheb, Chairperson of Business Department, The closing segment of the program was the cake cutting part where all the guests, faculties and students attended with a celebration mood.

The program was successfully coordinated by Prof. Dr. Farhana Helal Mehtab, Dean, Faculty of Law, GUB who has been teaching ‘Human Rights Law’ for the last 12 years and instilling the spirit of human rights in the hearts of law students by her varied creative teaching strategies.The program was successfully organized with high cooperation of Dr. Md. Arifuzzaman, Chairman of the Department of Law, faculty members of the Law department, volunteers and participating students.
