Master of Laws (LL.M)

Objectives:

The LL.M. program is a graduate program. It aims at offering the law graduates a high profile up-to-date curriculum focusing on research and learning in different specialized areas of domestic and international law.

The Specific objectives of the program are:

  1. To offer practical curricula focusing on legal research

  2. to help finding remedies to current social/political issues (e.g. to contribute for policy makers/researchers to find the right approach for a complete solution)

  3. To develop the capacity of the students to analyze and examine the interdisciplinary impacts of municipal and international laws to reach shared goals in a context of diversity.

  4. To enhance opportunities and provide support for scholarly research, writing, and publication by faculty members and students.

  5. To develop the necessary professional skills to produce high-quality work in national and international legal area.

  6. To resolve legal conflicts and disputes involving the application of laws in accordance with international law and regional law, specially, in the context of South Asia.

  7. To develop the capacity of the students to analyze and examine the interdisciplinary impacts of domestic laws and international laws.

  8. To facilitate comparative studies both in legal and socio-economic areas

  9. To strengthen the progressive changes in regard to rule of law, sustainable development, gender equality and human rights

Program Structure:

The LL.M program is one academic year divided into 3 trimesters. The LL.M Program contains 36 credits having 12 courses out of which one course with 3 credits is research monograph (writing). To obtain LL.M degree from GUB a student will have to complete all 36 credits with a minimum CGPA of 2.0 in all courses individually. The courses structure for LL.M are given as under:

Academic Competencies

The technical/academic competencies require students to gain advanced knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas of law:

  1. Appreciate different international instruments and organizations: Students will be able to appreciate the role of different international instruments and organizations.

  2. Understanding how to develop professional competency: The law LLM students of GUB will be able to understand how to develop professional expertise by the acquired knowledge of different areas of international laws.

  • Designing legal research: The students will be able to design and carry out legal research projects independently and will be able to write with clarity, precision, and effectiveness

  1. Ability to speak cogently about international legal concepts: Can speak cogently about international legal concepts and also can be able to work as part of a team, which may include engaging in collaboration, being a team leader, making effective use of supervision in various international organizations, i.e., UN , UNDP, UNSCEO, UNHCR, Red Crescent, Red Cross etc.

  2. Updated knowledge with technological integration: The LLM students will keep them update in respect of new legal problems and will be capable to solve adopting up-to-date technology in legal practice

  3. Ethical and professional liability: The LLM students are expected to recognize the most common ethical and professional liability dilemmas and resolving them with high professional standards and conduct him or herself in accordance with standards of professional conduct.

  • Expertise and expert knowledge: The students will be able to utilize expertise and expert knowledge and they will have the expertise to utilize the working mechanism of the United Nations, different international organizations, international law, international Politics, contemporary global legal crisis etc.

Application of the principles and policies of international law and municipal law: The students are expected to apply the principles and policies reflected in both international law and municipal law.
